# Drawing Creation (3D to 2D)

> Get a drawing most of the way there — views, initial dimensions, notes, and tolerance assistance, directly inside your CAD modeler.

## Overview

Nexus gets a drawing most of the way there: it picks views, places initial dimensions on the view that reveals them, adds notes, and helps apply tolerances and GD\&T. You describe the intent and the standard; Nexus drafts to it, following ASME Y14.5, ISO 128/8015, or your own house rules.

<Note>Treat Nexus as a drafting assistant, not a replacement for a final check. It gets you to a strong first pass — views, dimensioning scheme, tolerances, notes — but a full production-grade, release-ready drawing still needs a pass from an engineer. Run [Drawing Review](/cad/drawing-review) and a human check before it goes out.</Note>

## Doing the same drawing over and over? Train a workflow

If you generate the same style of drawing repeatedly — same template, same view scheme, same tolerancing rules, just a new part each time — this is the best way to do it. A [Workflow](/getting-started/workflows) turns that entire drawing procedure into a button: train it once on a real part, then create every drawing after that with a click instead of a prompt.

## Two ways to work

You can steer every step or hand Nexus the goal and let it run — either way produces the same drawing.

Each step is small and you can check it before the next. Prefer hands-off? The same drawing from one prompt: *"A3 third-angle, fully dimensioned, with a section through the bore."*

## Three built-in workflows

Nexus ships with three predefined drawing workflows. Launch them from the buttons at the top of the chat. Treat them as starting points — open any workflow and edit the steps to match your standards: your template, your planning rules, your review checklist.

## You're in control

### 1. Attach a template — anywhere

Drop your `.drwdot` into a workflow, attach it in the chat with the clip icon, or specify its path. Nexus uses it either way.

### 2. Select it, then say what to do

Select dimensions or views in your CAD modeler, tell Nexus you've selected them, and it edits, deletes, or updates just those.

### 3. Stop it when it deviates

If Nexus heads the wrong way, hit stop and redirect — you're never locked into a run. Correct it in a sentence and carry on from where it was.

### 4. Teach it once, reuse it forever

Run a task — say, applying your tolerance standard. Once it's right, tell Nexus to save those steps as a skill, then reuse it by name:

## Tips for drawing creation prompts

* **Specify the standard upfront** — ISO and ASME Y14.5 have different annotation conventions, projection methods, and tolerance interpretation rules. State which applies.
* **Be specific about views and layout** — name the views, sheet size, projection angle, and scale. The more you name, the more precisely Nexus lands it.
* **Name datums explicitly** — when applying GD\&T, specify datum letters and which faces they correspond to so references are consistent across features.
* **Describe what's already there** — if a drawing exists and you're adding to it, tell Nexus what views and dimensions are already present so it doesn't duplicate them.
* **Run Drawing Review before sending it out** — after generating, run [Drawing Review](/cad/drawing-review) to check for undimensioned features, blank title-block fields, and missing tolerances before sending for approval.
* **Plan for a final human check** — Nexus gets views, dimensions, notes, and tolerances most of the way there in one pass, but treat the output as a strong draft. Have an engineer review it before it's treated as production-grade and released.
* **Train a workflow for repeat jobs** — if you generate the same drawing style from a template over and over, validate it as a [Workflow](/getting-started/workflows) once, then run it for every new part instead of re-prompting.
